Executive Summary

VPAT stands for Voluntary Product Accessibility Template. The ITI VPAT® is the leading global reporting format for assisting buyers and sellers in identifying information and communications technology products and services with accessibility features. It is used by government, private, and public sector companies, initially in the US, as a statement of product accessibility, and is gaining global recognition.

We use the VPAT for evaluating the accessibility of our product according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). For an extended report including Section 508 and EN 301 549, please refer to our downloadable VPAT (PDF version).

The Siteimprove Platform has been developed to ensure accessibility and usability for all users. For the purpose of identifying accessibility issues, we have installed a thorough procedure, which, in addition to automated accessibility evaluations and heuristic evaluations, involves manual testing performed by experts in a variety of browser and assistive technology combinations.

In the case where an accessibility bug was not caught before releasing it, we will add it to this VPAT along with an expected date for having the bug fixed.

If you encounter bugs related to the accessibility of our products or have an idea for an improvement, we would like to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact our accessibility program manager at vpat@siteimprove.com.

Scoping Requirements

Note: This VPAT reports on the entire Siteimprove Intelligence Platform as a whole and does not restrict itself to individual products. When reporting on conformance with the WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria, they are scoped for full pages, complete processes, and accessibility-supported ways of using technology as documented in the WCAG 2.1 Conformance Requirements.

Product documentation and support services are not covered in this VPAT.

Success Criteria, Level A

Criteria Supporting Feature Notes

1.1.1 Non-text Content

Non-text Content: All non-text content that is presented to the user has a text alternative that serves the equivalent purpose, except in situations listed in WCAG 2.0 1.1.1.
Partially Supports

General:

  • Siteimprove uses Google Maps for rendering location data. Google Maps currently have accessibility bugs making them unusable for people who rely on assistive technology such as screen reader software. As an alternative, Siteimprove supplies the map data as a data table. We are also pushing for Google to improve their Map component. Please consider going to Google’s own list of Google Map accessibility issues and vote for the issues that affect your use of the maps.

Feedback module:

  • Certain combinations of web browsers and assistive technologies present the star rating options in a manner that can cause confusion for users. We are actively working to address this issue and aim to implement a solution to simplify the announcement of the star rating.

SEO module:

  • Keyword Finder: A series of icons depicting countries or devices lack alternative text.

1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)

For prerecorded audio-only and prerecorded video-only media, the following are true, except when the audio or video is a media alternative for text and is clearly labeled as such:

  • Prerecorded Audio-only: An alternative for time-based media is provided that presents equivalent information for prerecorded audio-only content.

Prerecorded Video-only: Either an alternative for time-based media or an audio track is provided that presents equivalent information for prerecorded video-only content.

Supports

1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded)

Captions are provided for all prerecorded audio content in synchronized media, except when the media is a media alternative for text and is clearly labeled as such.

Supports

1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)

An alternative for time-based media or audio description of the prerecorded video content is provided for synchronized media, except when the media is a media alternative for text and is clearly labeled as such.

Supports

1.3.1 Info and Relationships

Information, structure, and relationships conveyed through presentation can be programmatically determined or are available in text.

Partially Supports

General:

  • Users of the JAWS screen reader might experience the following bug: Sorting a table may result in incorrect row headers being announced. We are working with JAWS on solving the bug in their software.

  • PDF Reports: The format of PDF documents cannot accurately convey the role or relationship of many interactive elements. Please refer to our HTML reports instead.

SEO module:

  • Add Keywords to Activity Plan modal: Input fields are missing programmatic labels.

Settings:

  • Add Site Manually page: An input field is missing a programmatic label.

1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence

When the sequence in which content is presented affects its meaning, a correct reading sequence can be programmatically determined.
Supports

1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics

Instructions provided for understanding and operating content do not rely solely on sensory characteristics of components such as shape, size, visual location, orientation, or sound.
Supports

1.4.1 Use of Color

Color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element.
Partially Supports

General:

  • Some line charts are missing a toggle for adding unique patterns to the individual lines.

1.4.2 Audio Control

If any audio on a Web page plays automatically for more than 3 seconds, either a mechanism is available to pause or stop the audio, or a mechanism is available to control audio volume independently from the overall system volume level.
Not Applicable The product does not play audio automatically.

2.1.1 Keyboard

All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes, except where the underlying function requires input that depends on the path of the user's movement and not just the endpoints.

SEO module:

  • Keyword Monitor: Choosing a "Device" and "Provider" does not live up to the expected keyboard pattern.

  • Add Keywords to Activity Plan modal: Radiobuttons are difficult to use with the keyboard.

Ads module:

  • Landing Page Optimization: A series of tabs contain radiobuttons, which provides a poor experience for users of assistive technology.

2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap

If keyboard focus can be moved to a component of the page using a keyboard interface, then focus can be moved away from that component using only a keyboard interface, and, if it requires more than unmodified arrow or tab keys or other standard exit methods, the user is advised of the method for moving focus away.
Supports

2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts

If a keyboard shortcut is implemented in content using only letter (including upper- and lower-case letters), punctuation, number, or symbol characters, then at least one of the following is true:

For moving, blinking, scrolling, or auto-updating information, all of the following are true:

  • Moving, blinking, scrolling:For any moving, blinking or scrolling information that (1) starts automatically, (2) lasts more than five seconds, and (3) is presented in parallel with other content, there is a mechanism for the user to pause, stop, or hide it unless the movement, blinking, or scrolling is part of an activity where it is essential; and

Auto-updating: For any auto-updating information that (1) starts automatically and (2) is presented in parallel with other content, there is a mechanism for the user to pause, stop, or hide it or to control the frequency of the update unless the auto-updating is part of an activity where it is essential.

Supports All animations also support being turned off by disabling animations from the settings on the user’s computer.

2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold

Web pages do not contain anything that flashes more than three times in any one second period, or the flash is below the general flash and red flash thresholds.
Supports

All animations also support being turned off by disabling animations from the settings on the user’s computer.

Partially Supports

SEO module:

  • Keyword Monitor: Choosing a "Device" and "Provider" does not live up to the expected focus order.

  • Content Optimization: Upon setting a Target Page, keyboard focus is lost.

  • Insights - Details panel: Upon choosing option from "Add keyword to Activity Plan", keyboard focus is lost.

  • Insights: Action button triggers a notification but upon closing it, keyboard focus is lost.
