COPENHAGEN, DK - November 9, 2017 - Today, Siteimprove launched a new solution aimed at helping organizations take on the challenge of getting their websites ready to comply with the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that will take effect May 25, 2018.
The solution, named Siteimprove GDPR, is specifically made to crawl websites to detect the presence of personal data such as email addresses, phone numbers, names, and potential ID numbers, e.g. social security numbers. It also provides an overview of these data across all relevant domains, sub-domains, and IP addresses that belong to a specific organization, making it easy to pinpoint personal data that requires immediate attention.
With the GDPR, the EU is introducing more stringent regulations around data privacy and the handling of personal information, which defined at a basic level is anything that can be used to identify a person. Consequently, organizations must demonstrate how they are GDPR-compliant. Organizations failing to do so will face fines of up to 4% of their annual turnover, or 20,000,000 EUR, whichever is greater.
Before an organization can tackle GDPR, it needs to understand the challenge at hand. Manually looking for sensitive data while combing through individual pages can be a tedious and work-intense procedure that wastes valuable time and resources. Especially in large organizations with many departments and multiple domains.

Unlike other EU directives, the GDPR regulation takes immediate legal effect in May next year. That means organizations need to start preparing now.
