In SiteAnalyze, a number of configuration options are available to establish groups, and to exclude paths that are irrelevant for the statistics.
The Setup section can be accessed in the menu on the left of the screen.
Each configuration option is described in detail below.
The eGov option is only available to eGov users.
IP Groups
The IP groups option lets you enter an IP address that you want the system to exclude from the overall statistics (e.g. the organisation’s own IP address), or to highlight for special interest statistics (e.g. for potential clients or competitors).
In this example Dempson Council’s IP address has been entered under “Own”.
Click the Add IP group button to add a new IP group.
Type the name of the group, and in the Type dropdown menu, choose one of the following group categories: Competitors, Crawlers, Clients or Own – Add Group.
The group is now added, and IP addresses can be entered.
If you know the IP address that you want to add, or the string of IP addresses, then click Add IP.
Enter the IP address.
An entire series of IP addresses can be added by typing in the first part of the series and clicking Add.
A % sign will then be added by the programme to indicate the whole series of IP addresses.
The new IP group is now added and can be used in conjunction with the Filters option.
If you do know the IP address that you require, clicking Show unassigned IPs shows a list of unidentified IP addresses.
The list is sorted with the IP addresses that have registered the most logins at the top.
IP address look up makes it easier to see who is visiting your site.
Click Add adjacent to the IP address to assign it to an IP group.
Path Rejects
This function allows you to exclude certain pages from the statistical output, e.g. printable pages or subscription links.
To add a new path for exclusion, type the first part of the path name in the Exclude path field.
Click Add.
Page Groups
Statistics are also available for user-defined groups, regardless of where the pages contained in the group appear on the website.
Click Add Page Group to create a new group.
Name the group, select the site and click Add.
After the group has been created, pages can now be added.
Page groups can be created by entering a common element that is found in all of the pages that you would like to group together.
The common element can be a URL match (see picture) a title match or a path match.
You can also create groups by entering complete URLs or using the “attach to group” function button as explained previously.
Any combination of matches can be used.
Once the group has been created, you can then view statistics or run reports just for pages contained within the group.
Domain Groups
SiteAnalyze allows you to gather referring sites in domain groups.
Click Add domain group to create a new group. Name the group and choose type – internal or external – click Add.
The group has now been created.
Domains are added to the group via the button Show unassigned domains in the overview of domain groups. Click this button to display a list of unassigned domains at the bottom of the screen. Click the Add link adjacent to the domain that is to be added to the domain group.
Choose the designated domain group from the dropdown menu, and click Add.
In the Referrers section, the domains that are gathered in a domain group will be displayed under a single heading.
Search Domains
In the Search domains section, the most common search engines on the internet have been created, with a variable, so that SiteAnalyze recognises and registers the search terms that visitors use to find the website.
These domains are present in the system as a default. It is also possible to add new search domains manually.
Report Templates
Reports can be created and sent automatically via e-mail as part of SiteAnalyze.
You can change the text and report template for these e-mails.
Users are presented with the default SiteImprove template.
In order to create a new template click on copy.
In this new template you can fill in a new mail sender, sender e-mail address + a reply to e-mail address.
Some councils may experience problems with receiving e-mails from an internal e-mail address from an external source, in which case a reply to e-mail should be entered and the sender e-mail kept blank.
You also have the ability to configure the template, by feeding in a new style sheet, changing the e-mail text or both.
Once a new template has been added, you have the flexibility to choose between the default and the new template for SiteAnalyze reports.
eGov
The eGov section makes it easy to feed visitor statistics directly to your website without having to update reports or results manually.
Note: This feature is only available to local authority customers using the eGov version.
Councils can choose between an external link or an IFrame.
Configuration options for the external link or IFrame include background colour, IP filter, graph type and whether the graph should be animated.
