Adjusting Search Ranking Scores

Using the score icon you can assess whether the current score is appropriate in relation to the page/file’s relevance to the search term. SearchImprove allows you to adjust the score that has been given for each page element collected.

Using the score icon Score icon you can assess whether the current weighting score is appropriate. A page’s score (relevance to the search term) is calculated through a number of fixed components and elements that can be adjusted by the administrator.

Possibilities for adjusting the weighting score
Search term location Method for calculating scores
Score for search term in the title Automatic, with the possibility for manual adjustment
Score for search term in the body text Automatic

Score for search term in metadata Automatic, with the possibility for manual adjustment

To adjust the score for each element you must log in to the SiteImprove administration module.

  1. Click on the website’s name.
  2. Click on the button Search ranking.
  3. Choose the package that should be amended. If there is only one package this will be pre-chosen and the step sprung over.

Within this section there is the possibility to indicate how each element should be weighted when the overall relevance score is calculated.

Search ranking

In each case a score will be calculated automatically on the presence of the search term’s presence and frequency. In addition you can specify an additional score that will be awarded if the search term is found in searchable element.

The adjustments take effect on search results immediately, so you can continuously follow how adjustments to the different components affect search results.
